Table to Page
An Adaptation of a Real Life TTRPG Campaign
If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of tabletop roleplaying game, or TTRPG, it’s when a group of people use a predesignated system in order to play a game using their imaginations. That game usually tells some kind of story and is overseen by an individual called a Game Master. There are many, many such gaming systems out there, but one of the most popular ones is Dungeons and Dragons, which you have probably heard of. Tabletop gaming has experienced a boom in the past decade thanks to online livestreams like Critical Role and shows like Stranger Things.
Years ago, I was blessed to be able to run a fantastic tabletop game campaign with my friends. Being a first time Game Master, I thought the campaign would last a few months and fizzle out when everyone lost interest.
It ended up going for two years.
My friends created fantastic, nuanced memorable characters, each one of whom went on an emotional and personal journey from beginning of campaign to end. The plot twisted and turned and was so engrossing that sitting down to play every week felt more like turning on the latest episode of our favorite TV show. By the time it ended, in a spectacular six hour finale, I felt sad to be leaving this world and these characters behind. I realized I wanted to share this amazing story with other people, so that they could experience the wonderful characters my friends had made. I also wanted to give a gift to my friends, who were wonderful inventive players, many of whom had never played a roleplaying game before this one.
Thus, I decided to adapt that campaign, from beginning to end, into a series of novels. When you think of an adaptation, you might be thinking of a book into a movie. That would be called Page to Screen. But this is from imagination into book, from friends sitting around a table together to a written word. Thus, it’s Table to Page.
My chosen format is to release the book, and future books, serially. New chapters coming at least once a month. You can choose to buy the book, and only the book, for a set price. This will give you access to any chapter released for that book. Alternatively, you can pay a monthly subscription which will not only give you access to all the chapters of all the books, but also special “Behind the Page” posts which detail the real life moments in the campaign which inspired the chapters, as well as any additional short stories or works I happen to post. Think of a subscription as more of a “Support the Author” idea. You support my writing, and you get access to all of it. If you only want to buy the book, that’s all you need to pay for.
I hope you enjoy this journey, and other journeys to come, as much as we did.
